The new owners of SuperStroke Grips announced today that KJ Choi, a 10-year veteran of the PGA TOUR, has been signed to a 2009 endorsement contract to play the super-oversized putter grip. Details of the contract were not disclosed.

Choi won the Memorial and the AT&T in 2007 and the 2008 Sony Open using the jumbo grip. To open the 2009 season at the Mercedes Championship, Choi played a blue Proline SuperStroke grip and finished 9th in putting for the event. The next week at the Sony Open, Choi played the grip en route to a 12th place finish, ranking 13th in putts per round.

In an interview, Choi credited the SuperStroke putter grip as being instrumental in his consistent putting. "It helps me to have my arms closely fit to my body," said Choi. "It takes the wrist action out so every putt feels more comfortable."

Choi added that reduced hand pressure, a result of the SuperStroke's large diameter, helps prevent pulled or pushed putts. The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.

The SuperStroke has one flat side, that can be used facing forward, backward, left, or right. SuperStroke works for any type of grip, from conventional, to cross-handed, to the claw. The SuperStroke installs quickly and easily to any putter. It is USGA conforming, and legal for tournament play.

Tiger Shark Golf acquired SuperStroke in early January. They quickly moved to sign Choi to a SuperStroke endorsement contract, along with fellow SuperStroke PGA TOUR player Matt Bettencourt. Bettencourt completed an amazing turn around on the Nationwide Tour last year after his switch to a SuperStroke grip. He was ranked around 90th on the money list when he switched to the Super Stroke Grip and went on to finish the year with two victories and 3 Top 10's. His last victory at the Nationwide Tour Championship propelled him to #1 on the final official money list. "I went from around 150 to the top 50 in putting," said Bettencourt. "It's made all the difference in the world for me."
