If you watch professional golf, you’re sure to have seen a SuperStroke putter grip in the hands of some of the hottest players on tour, and heard the announcers refer to it as the “fat putter grip that takes the wrists out of the putting stroke.”

Two PGA TOUR players finishing in the Top 5 last week at the Wyndham Championship were playing the soon-to-be-released SuperStroke Lite Fatso putter grip.

One 50-year old player was looking to become the first golfer to win on the PGA TOUR, Nationwide Tour, Champions Tour and European Tour. He finished the event 1st in Putts per Greens in Regulation and 8th in Putts Per Green using the 85-gram grip. The other player, a young up-and-coming English golfer who burst onto the scene at The Open Championship in 1998 as a seventeen-year-old, finished T5 after leading the first round and recording 27 putts on the greens Sunday.

Five players in all used the new SuperStroke Lite grip, making it the #1 most played Jumbo Putter Grip at the Wyndham Championship, an event that plays a vital role in the race to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

“One win this week is equivalent to five wins [in FedEx Cup points] in the regular season,” said the player now ranked 91st in the FedEx Cup standings. “That makes me think if I start timing my run over the next four weeks, anything is possible.”

The SuperStroke Lite Fatso putter grip, the grip most preferred by the tour professionals, is three times the size of a standard putter grip at a diameter of 1.67 inches. The new grip, due out September 15, will also be made available in a smaller diameter version called the Slim. The larger surface area of a SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.
